Artist Lecture Series: Romaine Begay

RomaineBegay_potteryWithin the past two years my glaze designs have been influenced from the Navajo rug weavings, which is practiced in my family and from the traditional stories of the Navajo people.  The drawings I depict on some wall plates are representative of the shamans and traditional Native American and contemporary pottery of today.

GRAC_1_webExposed to music early on in their lives by family (Grace’s liked the Southern styles from gospel all the way to rock, while Tony learned from his brother, John Paul White of The Civil Wars fame), Grace & Tony experimented with an unlikely blend of genres by mixing punk, folk, bluegrass, and Texas swing, to create something new. What resulted was a blend of music for those searching for what’s beyond the norm: “Punkgrass” was born.

Dan Bern is best known for his prolific songwriting and electric live persona. He has released eighteen albums since 1997 and built a loyal following based on prodigious touring and output of songs in all forms. Since 2007, Bern has also focused his talent and sharp wit on writing songs for movies and other projects. He composed over a dozen songs for the Jake Kasdan/Judd Apatow spoof-biopic Walk Hard: The Dewey Cox Story and composed songs included in Apatow’s Get Him to the Greek, starring Russell Brand.
